This old motorcycle:Restoring a Vintage Triumph speed twin.

KBW is in the process of restoring a 500cc 1956 Triumph Speed twin motorcycle.

The Speed Twin was one of Triumph's most sucessful motorcycles and also happened to be  one of the first parallel twin cylinder engines to be produced and sold in large numbers due to it's ground breaking OHV engine and compact design.

The Speed Twin is the ancestor of  many great machines to be built by Triumph after World War II, notably the Thunderbirds and Bonneville twin cylinder machines.

The primary goal for this project is to have a very mechanically reliable machine hence restoration has begun with the engine.

The  engine has been removed from the frame to facilitate a thorough rebuild.

The engine is mostly untouched.  The Con rods, pistons, valves, cam followers and majority of other moving parts are orignal, installed  55 years ago by the Triumph Meriden factory.

We have replaced these with fresh parts as they were badly worn. All parts were imported from Tri-supply and SRM Engineering in England to ensure this beauty purrs like a kitten once we fire her up.

Some of the parts replaced are:-

  1. piston kit (8.1 compression)
  2. valves and guides
  3. valve springs/cotters
  4. cam followers
  5. con rod set(later model shell bearing type)
  6. All 4 timing pinnion(wider type)
  7. Morgo plunger oil pump
  8. SRM engineering Pressure release valve
  9. All gaskets and seals
  10. engine bearings
  11. engine fastners

The magneto was restored by Sean Hawker of Hawker electricals in England, one of the best places to restore a Lucas magneto.

Thunderbird Twinspark engine sump guard.

Planning a ride to ladakh? Do you ride Offroad?

Consider this as added insurance.

The new generation Royal enfield Unit Constrcuction Engine used on both the Thunderbird twin spark and Classic models Can benefit from these sump guards.

We have found the UCE engine casing to be quite thin on the underside  and especially around the bottom oval drain plug.Any damage to the casing can at best cause the casing to distort and drip oil, at worse the casing can crack.

These sump guards will protect your Engine casing from hard impact or flying stones when riding in off road situations.

We have fabricated a batch  from 2mm steel plate  and powdercoated them matt black, these sump guards do not need to be removed to access the bottom oil strainer and to drain oil during regular service.

We will supply them with all mounting hardware. They can be insatlled in under 10 minutes and require no drilling or modifiaction to fit.

Call us at 09881341144 for more details, we can ship them anywhere in India.

500cc to 612cc engine Build.
November 19 2009

Phase one of the Falcon racing project has been completed with the successful conversion of a stock STD kick start 500cc to a 612cc engine with electric starter.  The testing of the engine was carried out on the donor bike today on the pune-ahmednagar highway with excellent results. We ran the engine at a moderate rpm initially as it is in the break in period, with a few quick bursts which took us to 130kmh.
We will now proceed to fit and tune the engine with mandatory restrictor in the inlet runner as specified in the FSG rule book.
Phase two will be comprise of incorporating the engine onto the falcon racing team FSG car and testing it on the track.

Monster dog
November 19 2009

"Monster Dog" our in-house project drag bike has just been repainted in bright red after 4 years.  Monster dog really looks the part now and we really hope it lives up to that look!  Other aspects like the supercharger were put on the back burner for the past few months as we were busy with customer commitments and the Falcon racing project. We hope to have the bike running with the blower by the end of December. www.motocamp.blogspot.com
